FAA directive on Bombardier Global aircraft becomes effective 29 May

An FAA airworthiness directive on Bombardier Global aircraft takes effect 29 May. The rule applies to BD-700-1A10 and BD-700-1A11 model variants. Those designations cover the in-service Global Express family. The agency adopted the final rule on 24 April 2026, after a notice of proposed rulemaking issued in January.

The directive corrects approach speed adders and landing distance factors in the airplane flight manual. Specifically, it updates the non-normal procedure for the SLAT FAIL (Caution) crew alerting system message. The FAA stated that the existing figures could result in a reduced manoeuvring margin to stick shaker activation. Crew workload would rise from an unexpected stall warning.

The required action is a flight-manual revision. Operators must use the corrected tables when responding to a SLAT FAIL caution. The FAA harmonises the rule with Transport Canada AD CF-2025-53, issued on 11 November 2025. Bombardier identified the discrepancy and Transport Canada acted first under its bilateral agreement with the FAA.

The agency estimates 925 US-registered Bombardier Global aircraft fall in scope. Cost of compliance is one labour-hour per aircraft at $85. Total US-fleet cost is $78,625 by FAA reckoning. Serial number 9001 is excluded from the applicability list.

Owners should confirm with their flight department that the revised AFM tables are loaded before 29 May. The change is administrative. It does not require hardware modification. The risk it addresses is operational and concerns crew response in a non-normal landing configuration.
